August 2023 Devotional: Embracing God's Guidance

In our journey of faith, seeking guidance from God is crucial. As United Methodists, we believe in the importance of studying the Bible and finding meaning through the Word. This devotional aims to explore a passage of scripture from the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) and reflect on how it connects to our lives. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NRSV) "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."

In a world filled with uncertainty and constant change, it is easy to rely solely on our own understanding and abilities. It is easy to get caught up in the latest headlines and feel discouraged. However, Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us that true wisdom lies in trusting the Lord wholeheartedly rather than leaning on our own limited understanding. When our very human nature we seem to carry with us heavy burdens on our shoulders. We sometimes carry these burdens without counting how much it truly is weighing us down. This short passage speaks directly to our human tendency to rely on ourselves, urging us to surrender our control and place our faith in God's sovereignty (that is that God is supreme in power and authority) . When we acknowledge God in all aspects of our lives, we open ourselves up to God's guidance and direction.
